Name
Merwin, Lark
Alias
Known as “Larky” when she was younger, though there aren’t many left who call her that.
Birth Date [Age]
26
Appearance
Only 5’3”, Lark is relatively short, but makes up for it with a fairly muscular build for a woman. She has a plethora of freckles and dirty blonde hair that she usually keeps tied up in a bun. Her eyes are blue-green, and her nose has unfortunately been broken twice, resulting in a slightly uneven shape and a rather unattractive scar across the bridge of her nose. This combined with her usual scowl makes her appearance somewhat less than attractive, though she can clean up fairly well if she feels like it.
She almost always wears scuffed, faded riding boots, dating from her traveling days, though it has been years since she had a job that required travelling. Often, she pairs the boots with brown riding breeches, which seldom match well with the rest of her clothing. In colder weather, she usually wears a grey leather jacket with a half dozen pockets on the inside and several more on the exterior. Under this she wears simple shirts ranging in color from grey to black, but never with much color. On occasion she’ll wear a grey wool travelling cloak, though she prefers not to, since age has caused it to start to smell.
Magic User?
No.

History
Lark was born in Alfrit’s Blessing, and still uses the area as a kind of home base. Her hometown was situated at the edge of civilization and occasionally suffered attacks from wild creatures, though her family’s residence was close enough to the town center that they never bore the brunt of these attacks. She has one younger brother (Morgan Merwin, a name she loved to tease him for) who still lives with her parents in the same house that she used to.
As is usual for those born in the region, she had basic academic and military training through the universal education programs. She tried to put this to her advantage outside of Alfrit’s Blessing by applying for jobs as a caravan guard and guide, thinking that her training in map reading and fighting would be enough to give her an advantage. While she does not cut a particularly imposing figure, her enormous Altari dog was enough to convince some that she was worth hiring. However, her lack of experience in the wild proved to be a major stumbling block for her. That combined with her gender made it more difficult for her to find employment, especially in more remote regions. Over the years, she managed to find several decent jobs, but nothing profitable enough to justify the danger of such an enterprise. She briefly was in a relationship with one of her fellow caravan guards, but she quickly decided that he was unintelligent and not worth her time.
After a disastrous encounter with a band of magic-using robbers in which most of a caravan she was guarding was lost, she decided that her calling likely lay elsewhere. Forced to sell her horse to pay for food, she found herself in a difficult situation. Unable to find work in Alfrit’s Blessing, she briefly worked as a guard in Haven, but quit her job due to dissatisfaction with the bureaucratic nature of the organization.
Boons
- Relatively experienced in fighting, though taking a desk job has put her slightly out of shape
- Decently educated, with a talent for map-reading and application
- Her dog. Altari dogs are famously intelligent and their size makes them imposing creatures.
Banes
- Prone to intense sea-sickness if forced to travel by boat
- Terrified of magic, she is not particularly effective at fighting magic users
- Can be foul tempered, which does not make it easy for her to keep a job
Affiliation
Loosely loyal to Alfrit’s Blessing.
Housing
Renting what hardly constitutes more than a shack on the outskirts of town near the northern border of Haven. It’s a one room assembly of old wood, is terribly leak-prone and very cold in the winter. It contains her bed and a trunk of her possessions, as well as a massive dog bed for her beloved Altari dog.
Occupation
Currently she is working as an assistant route coordinator for a lumber company on the northern edge of Haven, plotting routes for the caravans that she used to guard. This job is as poorly paying as it is tedious, but it pays her rent until she can find something else.
Weapon
A short, low-quality sword she calls “Pigsticker”. She’s not had to use it since she quit working as a caravan guard, and generally it resides in a locked trunk at the foot of her bed.
Pet(s)
A massive Altari dog named Teasel. He is sable-grey in color and true to his breed stands about half as tall as she is. While he can be a fearsome guard dog, he tends to be unusually friendly for his breed, and his allegiance can often be swayed by offering him snacks. He has a weakness for cheese.
