OOC (out-of-character) chat boxes have been prevalent nearly as long as people have been using forums to create collaborative stories. More recently, IC (in-character) chat boxes seem to be trending in an increasingly popular fashion. The idea is intriguing, and works especially well for modern day RPs with things like internet and bars - on Wrath of the Gods, we've got taverns. The idea is appealing enough that I'd like to incorporate it, as it seems an easy and accessible way for characters to interact in a less formal fashion; my current thinking is to host several chatboxes for the various larger taverns, as a means of localized communication between characters sharing a general proximity. The question I'm posing is - does this idea sound appealing? Or should we have one larger, universal IC chatbox, realism be damned? Or should we forgo the IC chatbox all together? If you've got an idea of your own, I'd love to hear it.
